Editorial policy

How we research, source and stay honest.

The standards behind every guide: where our facts come from, how we handle safety-critical topics, and how we disclose the ways we earn.

In one line

Real questions in, authoritative sources cited, dangerous DIY routed to professionals, nothing fabricated, and every paid placement disclosed. If a claim is not sourced or clearly marked for verification, treat it as a bug and tell us.

How we research

Every guide begins with real user-generated content: public threads on Reddit and trade forums, plus review sites: to capture the actual questions, mistakes and prices homeowners report. We then verify safety and cost claims against authoritative sources and cite them inline.

Sourcing standards

Safety-critical facts are sourced from government and industry authorities: the EPA, CPSC, NFPA, USFA, the FTC, the CDC, the Red Cross, the Insurance Information Institute, the NWS and manufacturers. Prices are presented as indicative ranges, cross-checked, and marked for verification: never invented.

Safety and YMYL

We never instruct dangerous do-it-yourself work: live electrical, gas, structural, sewage, roof or height work, or high-tension garage springs. In those cases we route you to a licensed professional, 911, the gas utility or the power company. Life-safety guidance always appears above the request form, never below it.

No fabrication

We do not invent experiences, testimonials, credentials, job counters or statistics. We are not tradespeople, we say so plainly, and we build authority through synthesis, citation and transparency instead.

How we make money, disclosed

We are a referral service. Contractors in the network pay us a fee when we route a homeowner request to them; the homeowner pays us nothing. We also run clearly labelled sponsored placements and affiliate links, disclosed per FTC guidance and Google’s link-spam policy. Neither buys a change to our safety guidance or our published price ranges.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we want to fix it. Spotted an error or an out-of-date price? Tell us and we will review it against the source and update the page.

Emergency Services 24H is a referral service: we match homeowners with independent, licensed and insured contractors, and we are paid a referral fee by those contractors. That fee never changes the safety guidance or the price ranges published here. Nothing on this site is medical, legal or insurance advice, and no article is a substitute for a licensed professional inspecting the actual failure. In a life-threatening emergency, call 911.

The authorities we cite, and where to check them

Checked . If a figure here no longer matches its source, that is a bug, so tell us and we will correct it.
